What Are Spider Vein Treatments?

This treatment targets spider veins in your legs. The use of a 1064 Nd YAG laser uses long wave lengths to penetrate the skin and treat vascular lesions of the legs that are normally unable to be treated with shorter waves lengths.

Spider veins are caused when the valves inside your veins are weakened and the blood struggles to flow in the proper direction. This can cause the blood to pool eventually leading the vein to branch out, resulting in spider veins. They normally appear as small, blue, purple, or red webs under the skin.

What to Expect
At Your Appointment

To treat spider veins, we use a1064 Nd YAG laser which is highly effective based on the type of wave length as well as the haemoglobin absorption. This treatment uses a short blast of polychromatic, high-intensity light which can penetrate just below the surface of the skin. When your appointment begins, the medical aesthetician will begin with a handheld device to deliver pulses of light to the affected area. The light shuts down the vessel by coagulation, reducing the appearance of the veins.

As a non-invasive procedure, the spider vein treatments are relatively pain-free. The treatment has been described as feeling like a rubber band being snapped on the skin.

What to Expect
After Your Appointment

After the appointment, there are usually no lasting effects, aside from the reduced look of the spider veins. You may experience some slight redness or mild swelling and for some patients, using the YAG laser can result in pore sized micro scabs for up to 2 days up until 6 weeks post-treatment.

The treatment varies case to case based on the number of treatable veins. Mild cases may have very little downtime. This will all be determined and explained by our on-site medical aestheticians.
